Soderbergh on Avatar: “Holy sh*t. It’s the craziest sh*t ever!”

3d-specsThe recent studio push to make every movie 3D (Monsters vs. Aliens, Coraline, My Bloody Valentine, even the freakin’ Jonas Brothers) is now moving to home entertainment as well. Today the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers issued a report setting an industry standard for home display of 3D content, further attempting to take the format from gimmick to legitimate art form.

The real test though, will probably come in the form of James Cameron’s closely-guarded new project Avatar. Few have seen anything from it, but the lucky few who have say it may change the medium of film forever. Or as Steven Soderbergh put it, “I’ve seen some stuff and holy sh*t. It’s the craziest sh*t ever.” The Oscar winner continued, “I can tell you that shit was mindblowing. The shit I saw was crazy. Like, craaaazy. I think it’s gonna be gigantic. It’s gonna be another one of those benchmarks. There’s gonna be Before that movie and After.”
