The Time 100 is a pretty silly list, a bizarre grab bag of names that strings together everyone from Mexican druglord Joaquín Guzmán to the inventor of Rickrolling under an ill-defined banner of being “culturally relevant”. There’s exactly one comedian (Tina Fey), film director (Werner Herzog) and TV writer/producer (Fey again), but there’s plenty of room for Rush Limbaugh, Zac Efron and Sully The Pilot.

But at least the annual gala held to promote the list has given us the strange summit of Sri Lankan musical mastermind Maya Arulpragasam, better known as M.I.A., and the Empress of The Universe, better known as Oprah. Though M.I.A. is a lowly first-time inductee to the elite list and Oprah is the only person to make the list every year (more times than the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela combined), Her Highness apparently made quite the impression according to M.I.A.’s always entertaining (and always in All Caps) blog:

LAST NIGHT , I WENT TO THE TIME 100 EVENT COZ THEY ADDED ME TO THE LIST OF 100 MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE OF 2009,

I SAW TAVIS SMILEY WHEN I WALKED IN AND SAID THANKS FOR STICKING YOUR NECK OUT AND BEING A REAL JOURNALIST, HIS PROGRAM WAS THE FIRST PROGRAM TO VOICE THE TRUTH ABOUT WHATS GOING ON IN SRI LANKA, WITHOUT FEAR OF CONSEQUENCES.

THE NEXT PERSON I MET WAS OPRAH!!!!

SHE SAID SHE LIKED MY JACKET FROM THE MAGAZINE (THE ONE MY BROTHER GOT FOR ME FROM THE SIDE OF THE STREET AT SXSW 09) SHE SQUEEEEZED MY HAND SO HARD , I WAS CONVINCED SHE CARED. MICHELLE OBAMA GAVE A SPEECH AND THERE WAS MAD SECRET SERVICE IN THE AIR SO I DIDNT GET TO THROW A PAPER PLANE AT HER SAYING ” STOP THE BOMBING OF THE TAMILS IN SRI LANKA”
