Bryan Batt not returning for Mad Men Season 4

The fan favorite who plays the closeted Sal Romano not invited back for another season.

*SPOILERS AHEAD* Mad Men‘s surprising third season finale clearly closed the door on several characters; it’s hard to see what role Betty Draper (now Betty Francis?), Paul Kinsey and Ken Cosgrove will play with Sterling Cooper being replaced by Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce.  E! Online reports today that Cosgrove and Betty will continue on in some way, but Kinsey’s fate is unclear and Bryan Batt, better known as fan favorite art director Sal Romano, is definitely out.

Batt sadly reports via TV Guide and New York Magazine that he never heard from series creator Matthew Weiner on his character’s fate but the December 31st deadline to renew his contract has long passed. Let’s hope that the saddest character on arguably TV’s saddest show ever is revisited in future seasons. It would be a shame if the last we saw of him was that post-firing phone call to Kitty in a shady-looking cruising spot.
