AVATAR Trailer Goes Interactive

It’s one thing to bill your film as a revolutionary, industry-changing piece of work, but James Cameron’s AVATAR is taking things even further. Fans looking forward to the December 18 release date don’t just have to settle with ho-hum trailers anymore.
Fox today debuted a new interactive trailer at the film’s official site and on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Using Adobe Air technology, the trailer–which is functions more like a separate application, including live social network feeds–features the currently available theatrical trailer, but also intersperses short sound bytes from interviews with the cast, crew and artists involved with the film. It’s on the level of some of the best DVD and Blu-ray special features found on feature films and this is just the trailer.
You can bet that AVATAR is looking to make one of the biggest splashes ever at the box office. Given this year’s mega-hits Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Twilight: New Moon, can AVATAR take opening weekends to the next level in terms of quality as well?
