A Newer, Fresher Sodapop Journal

Can you believe we’re already going on our second year here at Sodapop Journal? We started this little operation in mid-2009 as a fun way to share and discuss our favorite entertainment with you, friends and readers, and now we’re taking another step forward. This means a new look (sharp, eh?) but also a new multi-layered approach to our coverage.

The first thing you should notice is that our Fresh section is revamped to be more, well, fresh, which means that we can post more news faster and always have it easy to find right on the homepage (and on Twitter too). You’ll also notice that Remote Uncontrolled is its own section now and will serve as the umbrella for all of our TV coverage, including recurring segments like Angry Fellas and Blood Lust for all you Mad Men and True Blood fans, respectively.

We’re also working on our feature stories, which, although they may not appear as frequently, we want to be something special, so we’re going BIG with them from now on. We want our features to rival anything you’d see in print magazines—and if there’s anything we know about, that’d be it—and so we’ll be putting in extra love to make them fun reads that are also worth looking at.

Things might be a bit messy as we make the transition, so if you find something out of sorts, or if you’d like to just tell us how we’re doing or what you’d like to see more of, tell us! We’re doing this for folks like us who are fans first and foremost, and besides, we’d hate to miss out on something good.

Ep. 6: Welcome to the Future, Stranger

Join hosts Robert, Scott, Paul and Zoe as they discuss AMC’s The Walking Dead and all the finer points of the zombie apocalypse. Afterwards, they ponder the highs and lows the 2010 TV season, including Glee, How I Met Your Mother, Boardwalk Empire and how Drake can have any street cred after Degrassi. Very high-minded stuff. Enjoy!

Ep. 2: All the News That Isn’t Fit to Print

This week Robert welcomes special guests Kevin Gifford and Chris Johnston for a mini Newtype USA reunion, wherein they reflect on their days of working for enthusiast media and how much it’s changed over the last few years. They also discuss the big question of whether the days are numbered for high-profile coverage of anime, games and genre entertainment in print magazines.

Catch up with Chris as he talks about video games on the Player One Podcast and find Kevin’s musings on games at Magweasel and gaming magazines at GameSetWatch. And remember, you can now subscribe to the Sodapop Journal Podcast in iTunes.
